Ecotoxicity of basil (Ocimum Basilicum) extract in aquaculture feeds: Is it really eco-safe for the aquatic environment?

چکیده
Plant extract and essential oils are gaining application in aquaculture, but data about their environmental impact limited potential effects on aquatic organisms largely unknown. For this study, ecotoxicity tests were performed under standardized conditions fish feed supplemented with 3 % w/w of a basil supercritical (F1-BEO; substance A), F1-BEO (substance B), without C) three model species different trophic levels (bacteria, primary producer, consumer) considered representative for freshwater (Aliivibrio fischeri, Raphidocelis subcapitata, Daphnia magna) marine (A. Phaeodactylum tricornutum, Paracentrotus lividus) ecosystems. Ecotoxicological response was comparable within the same level (whichever ecosystem). EC50 not calculable concentration range here tested (3.9–500 mg/L) microalgae, suggesting that none substances toxic producers. Reduction A. fischeri bioluminescence at (0.5–10 observed only A (EC50 9.53 mg/L 9 ecosystems, respectively). Notably, P. lividus embryotoxicity higher 1.80 C 4.6 than B 7.10 mg/L), effect due to dissolution. In contrast, more 0.34 D. magna 3.98 5.50 mg/L). Based Globally Harmonized System Classification Labelling Chemicals, all categorized Acute 2, except which 1 magna. Overall, found be potentially an ecosystem, especially consumer. Further study plant is needed better understand fate environment.

Chicoric acid found in basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) leaves
This is the first report to identify the presence of chicoric acid (cichoric acid; also known as dicaffeoyltartaric acid, which is a caffeic acid derivatizedwith tartaric acid) in basil leaves. Rosmarinic acid, chicoric acid and caftaric acid (in the order of most abundant to least; all derivatives of caffeic acid) were identified in fresh basil leaves. Rosmarinic acid was themain phenolic comp...
متن کاملVariation in the Essential Oils in Different Leaves of Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) at Day Time
Essential oil molecules released from fresh leaves of sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) were collected in Tenax traps and analysed using a TD-GC/MS. During daytime from 09.00 to 17.00, there were no differences in the content and composition of total essential oils, however the percentage of eugenol increased slightly. Significant differences were found in both the total content and composition...
متن کاملThe content of essential oil in ten sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) cultivars and its composition
The experiment was conducted in the Research Institute of Medicinal Plants in Poznań, Poland in 2005–2006 and concerned a collection of ten sweet basil cultivars such as: ‘Minette’, ‘Mittelgrossblättriges Grünes’, Piccolino’, ‘Rubin’, ‘Red Rubin’, ‘Genoveser’, ’Martina’ and two Polish cultivars: ‘wala’ and ‘Kasia’. Moreover, ‘Lemonette’ cultivar of Ocimum americanum L. was also included in the ...
متن کاملEffects of nitrogen fertilization on the phenolic composition and antioxidant properties of basil (Ocimum basilicum L.).
Many herbs and spices have been shown to contain high levels of polyphenolic compounds with potent antioxidant properties. In the present study, we explore how nutrient availability, specifically nitrogen fertilization, affects the production of polyphenolic compounds in three cultivars (Dark Opal, Genovese, and Sweet Thai) of the culinary herb, basil ( Ocimum basilicum L.). Nitrogen fertilizat...

The present study examined the efficacy of Ocimum basilicum extract, a natural herb, with antioxidant properties, against testicular toxicity induced by Lead, which is one of the most important toxic heavy metals. The intoxicated rats showed decreased cell proliferation was reflected by a decrease in Ki-67 expression, whereas the increase in apoptotic rate was associated with a decrease in the ...
